Recipe – Homemade Whipped Cream

Better than the whipped cream from the store!

As far as we’re concerned, no cake or bowl of ice cream is complete without a generous dollop of whipped cream. Do you always buy ready-made whipped cream from an aerosol or the kind that you still have to whip up yourself? If you haven’t read this anymore: you can easily make your own whipped cream with only two ingredients.

Two ingredients for whipped cream recipes

The only ingredients you need to make your own whipped cream are heavy cream and icing sugar. Heavy cream is an American product that is similar to what we know as whipped cream. Yet there is one big difference and that lies in the fat percentage of the cream. Heavy cream contains a fat percentage of at least 36 percent and Dutch whipped cream is below that. The fatter the cream is, the better you can whip it until stiff. However, Albert Heijn has a fat percentage of 35%, so that’s pretty close!

And so you can decide for yourself how sweet it gets.

Ingredients

  • 2 dl cream
  • 2 tablespoons icing sugar

Instructions

  • Pour the cream, fresh from the fridge (!), into a tall bowl.
  • Place the mixer in the cream, add the sugar and immediately start beating on high speed.
  • Keep mixing until the cream is almost completely stiff. Then work at a gentle speed (or by hand) or until the consistency is perfect.

Notes

Tip: don't beat the cream too hard or too long, as this may cause the cream to curdle. You have in fact made butter, which can no longer be recovered. Also be careful with whipping cream on hot days, then the cream will curdle even faster. Finally, you can always add some vanilla sugar, which is very tasty!
